Kesha has confirmed the release dates of both her fifth studio album, Gag Order, and its first two singles, Fine Line and Eat the Acid.

The record’s cover art, title and release date were revealed after a 24-hour livestream on Instagram came to an end on 25 April.

Gag Order’s artwork shows the singer with a plastic bag over her head as if she is being choked.

Fans believe the album is somewhat inspired by her ongoing legal battle with controversial music producer Dr. Luke, who Kesha has accused of physical, sexual and emotional abuse – something he has denied.

It will be released on 19 May, with its first two singles out on 28 April.

It marks Kesha’s first release since High Road in 2020, which features collaborations with Big Freedia and Wrabel, among others.

“Gag Order is an album that finds the GRAMMY-nominated pop star, Kesha, excavating the deepest recesses of her soul to date,” its description reads.

“The record, which Kesha has labelled ‘post-pop’ and was produced by Rick Rubin, is a full-bodied collection that flows like a stream of conscious journey through the psychedelic dark depths of the human psyche followed by basking in the cleansing light when finally reaching the surface.”

Throughout her career, Kesha has scored four number one singles in the US, two number one albums and even earned herself two Grammy nominations.

Her debut single, Tik Tok, spent nine weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and is one of the best-selling songs of all time with sales of more than 18 million copies.

Gag Order is out on 19 May and is available for preorder here.
