Music icon Mariah Carey has shared her fabulous thoughts on Britney Spears’ new memoir, darling!

On 24 October, the ‘Gimme More’ singer released her highly anticipated book The Woman in Me.

Described as “a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope,” the emotional memoir dives into Spears’ public breakdown and thirteen-year conservatorship, her toxic relationship with NSYNC singer Justin Timberlake, and the gendered double standards of the music industry.

Since its release, the 275-page tell-all has received universal acclaim from fans and critics, with many praising the Grammy-winning talent for her fearlessness and taking back her power.

While the book was filled with emotional commentary regarding Spears’ difficult upbringing and time in the spotlight, it also featured some light-hearted moments – including an iconic story involving music legend Carey.

In the book, the beloved talent reflected on meeting the “Songbird Supreme” at an award show and “the most beautiful, otherworldly light” she encountered while visiting the singer’s dressing room.

“You know we all have ring lights now? Well, more than twenty years ago, only Mariah Carey knew about ring lights,” she exclaimed, before revealing that she unknowingly tried to get the elusive chanteuse to take a photo of her bad side.

“She said, “No! Come stand here, darling. This is my light. This is my side. I want you to stand here so I can get my good side, girl.” She kept saying that in her deep, beautiful voice: “My good side, girl. My good side, girl.””

Spears then admitted that she couldn’t remember what award she won that night because getting the “perfect photo with Mariah was the real prize”.

While the heartwarming story has become a hit amongst fans, Carey recently revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live that she hadn’t exactly heard what the ‘Everytime’ singer said about her.

Fortunately for The Emancipation of Mimi singer, Kimmel had a copy on hand.

“You want to know what she wrote? Don’t worry, it’s good,” the comedian exclaimed, to which Carey responded: “I love her, actually.”

After reading the entire excerpt, the ‘Fantasy’ singer expressed her gratitude for Spears, stating: “That’s super sweet what Britney said about me.”

Carey also gave insight into her ring light expertise and the type of lighting she dislikes.

“Of course, I had a ring light. By the way, I like a ring light when you cover the bottom edge of a ring light because for me, I don’t like the under lighting. It’s very specific,” she added.

This isn’t the first time Carey has shared kind words about Spears.

Back in 2021, the talented songwriter revealed to NME that she reached out to the ‘Break the Ice’ singer during her conservatorship, which ended in November 2021.

“I think everybody on this planet deserves to be free and what they did to her, what I saw, was horrific,” she revealed to the publication.

“So I reached out to her through a mutual friend because I wanted her to know: Guess what? You’re not alone.”
