MTV has stepped into their Real Housewives bag with their upcoming new reality series, The Real Friends of WeHo.
The show, which is set to air on 20 January, will follow the lives of Canada’s Drag Race judge Brad Goreski, singer Todrick Hall, actor Curtis Hamilton, skincare entrepreneur Jaymes Vaughan and digital businessman Joey Zauzig.
“[The Real Friends of WeHo] is an unfiltered and honest look at a select group of friends living, loving and pursuing their passions in the West Hollywood community,” the logline reads.
“Consisting of some of Hollywood’s most influential and successful LGBTQ+celebrities, personalities, and entrepreneurs, this revealing and witty new ensemble docuseries provides an up close and personal glimpse into their lives as they perform in front of crowds of thousands make high stakes business deals, celebrate important life milestones, work the red carpet and reveal their most intimate truths to family and friends.”
The network also released a brief trailer for the series, which features a sneak peek into their glamorous lifestyles and various friendship outings.
While The Real Friends of WeHo has yet to premiere, the show has already caused quite a stir among pop culture enthusiasts.
Shortly after the series was announced, many LGBTQ+ TV viewers slammed the show for shortening the new episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15 to 60 minutes.
According to Deadline, the show’s timeslot – which is after Drag Race and before Untucked – is meant to build a “destination night by using [Drag Race] to launch the series.”

One fan wrote: “We’re getting shorter drag race and delayed untucked because of this?”
In addition to the Drag Race outrage, actor and model Chris Salvatore alleged on Twitter that he was fired from the series due to his OnlyFans account.
“Last year, 3 gays from a certain reality show refused to film with me for having an OF, so I was fired by production after filming for only a week. That’s about all I can say… for now,” he wrote on 5 January.
In response, one fan tweeted: “That doesn’t even make sense. Did they think you were gonna whip it out in the middle of the shoot?”
Another person wrote: “Speak out baby!!! There’s so much hatred within the gay community no one knows about.. especially in the industry!”
Lastly, some social media users have slammed the show’s inclusion of Hall, who has faced backlash for his alleged business practices and controversial run on Celebrity Big Brother.
It’s safe to say that the show will be full of drama on and off the screen.
