The beloved dark-comedy Hacks has been officially renewed for season 3.

The hit show follows the volatile professional and personal relationship between Gen Z writer Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) and legendary Las Vegas comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart).

Since its debut in 2021, the HBO Max original series has become an award-winning and critically acclaimed success for the streaming service.

Alongside its clever jokes and heartfelt storylines, the series has also been praised for its authentic queer representation.

On 12 May, the streamer began to air the show’s second season, which saw Ava and Deborah workshop their “new material in small clubs” across the country.

Two weeks after the bittersweet season 2 finale, HBO Max announced that the comedic gang would be headed back to the stage for a third season.

“We congratulate Hacks’ extraordinarily gifted executive producers and cast, and our partners at Universal Televison. We are overjoyed at the audience and press response to the new season and glad to give viewers more of this gorgeous, hilarious, moving show,” said Sarah Aubrey, the Head of Originals at HBO Max via the Hollywood Reporter.

The President of Universal TV, Erin Underhill, echoed similar sentiments, stating: “The first two seasons of Hacks – expertly crafted by Lucia, Paul and Jen – gave us beloved, complex characters who make us laugh and feel deeply.

“We’re thrilled that our HBO Max partners have renewed this standout series for a third season and we can’t wait to see what’s next for Deborah, Avan and the rest of our outstanding ensemble.”

Alongside Aubrey and Underhill’s statements, the stars of the series have also celebrated the renewal news on social media.
