Reneé Rapp has opened up about the love song she wrote for one of her The Sex Lives of College Girls (SLOCG) co-stars.

Back in August 2023, the Mean Girls talent treated music listeners to her highly anticipated debut album, Snow Angel.

Upon its release, the immersive 12-track project received rave reviews from fans and critics – with many praising the album’s queer-inclusive storytelling, Rapp’s stunning vocals and her emotional vulnerability.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the beloved talent opened up about the creative process for Snow Angel, and what inspired some of the record’s most beloved tracks – including the whimsical ‘I Do’ from the deluxe edition.

When asked if the song is about unrequited love, the Broadway star somewhat agreed, revealing that she wrote the track about Alyah Chanelle Scott, her best friend and SLOCG co-star.

“I don’t even think I ever told her that I wrote it about her. But I remember being like, ‘I love you so much, and this feels so romantic in a platonic way, but I don’t understand how to explain it,'” she explained to the publication.

“And I now know that it was so much more complicated in my sexuality. And I was like, ‘Wait, you feel completely different to me than a boy does, and I love you. So am I in love with you?’ I’m like, ‘What the f**k?'”

While Rapp was initially confused by her feelings for Scott, she soon realised that their relationship was more platonic than romantic.

“And I now know that she’s just my f***ing rock, and I just don’t think I like boys,” she added.

This isn’t the first time the ‘Talk Too Much’ singer has opened up about her heartwarming friendship with Scott.

In a 2022 interview with PEOPLE, Rapp gushed about forming a tight bond with The Book of Mormon star while filming the first two seasons of SLOCG.

“The best part of this job was having Alyah become my best friend. She has gotten me through a lot, and vice versa, and I’m very, very grateful for her,” she exclaimed.

Fortunately, fans will see more of Rapp and Scott’s adorable friendship dynamic when they reprise their roles as Leighton and Whitney in the upcoming third season of The Sex Lives of College Girls.

While Max has yet to announce plot details or announce a release date for the new batch of episodes, Variety revealed in July 2023 that season three will be Rapp’s last.
