JoJo Siwa opened up about the heartfelt phone call she received from Elton John after coming out.

On 20 November, the Rocketman singer held his Farewell from Dodger Stadium concert – which featured guest performances from Dua Lipa and Brandi Carlile.

In addition to the star-studded duets, the show also saw an array of celebrities flock to the baseball stadium to attend the grand event – including dancer and social media star Siwa.

In an interview with E! News, the So You Think Can Dance judge expressed her excitement for the concert and gave further insight into her heartwarming friendship with John.

“I remember the first time I ever got to meet Elton was backstage at one of his concerts, and I got to talk to him for like 45 minutes. I was only 15, and that conversation changed my life forever,” she recalled.

Siwa also reflected on John calling her the day after she came out and the impactful conversation they shared.

“When I came out to the world, he called me like the next day, and I got a random number from the UK, and I was like, ‘Who is calling me from the UK?'” she said.

“So I answered, and at the same time, I’m a teenager and this sounds fun. ‘Hello, JoJo darling. This is Elton,’ and I was like, ‘Mom, get the camera out. It’s Elton John.’ It was the coolest thing ever.”

Towards the end of her interview, Siwa praised John and other queer music icons for paving the way for the younger LGBTQ+ generation.

“To see the way that the world accepted Elton John for who he was, Freddie Mercury for who he was, all those people who came before me in the gay community made me feel like ‘, Oh you know what? It’s going to be okay. Those people know who they are, people know them, and people love them,'” she said.

Back in 2021, Siwa seemingly came out as queer on TikTok after she uploaded a video of herself dancing to Lady Gaga’s Born This Way.

She later confirmed her sexuality when she shared a photo of herself dressed in a t-shirt that said: “Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever.”

A few months after her landmark announcement, Siwa gave further clarification on her sexuality when she told People Magazine she identified as pansexual.
