Luke Evans has opened up about potentially playing James Bond in a new interview.
Back in 2021, fans were finally treated to the 25th film in the long-running James Bond series after its release was delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
While the movie received critical acclaim for its action and sleek aesthetic, the release was a bittersweet affair for fans of Daniel Craig due to the film signalling the actor’s final run as the iconic spy.
Since the Glass Onion star’s departure, movie enthusiasts have been eager for news surrounding the beloved talent’s successor.
While an array of names have been thrown into the mix, Evans has landed on the list as one of the most popular fan castings.
During his recent appearance on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, the Beauty and the Beast star opened up about the ongoing rumours with a coy statement.
“The new James Bond? Who knows? Nobody knows,” he told Matt Tebbutt. “I mean, it would be nice, wouldn’t it? Don’t jinx it.”
This isn’t the first time the openly queer actor has talked about potentially joining the long-running franchise.
During an April 2021 interview with The Mirror, the Dracula Untold star said he would “jump at the chance” to play the complicated spy.
“I think I’ve cut my teeth very well in movies. I’ve done and I’ve enjoyed every second of it. It’s a phenomenal job, a phenomenal franchise, and an incredible role,” he told the news outlet.
“I have to say, though, it’s a daunting task for any actor to play the role after Daniel Craig. No one knows what’s happening. It’s a very secretive process, and it’s a wonderful role.
“I would jump at the chance, as would many actors in my position, so we shall see. It will be an exciting casting moment for the Bond production, and I wish whoever gets it the best of luck.”
Aside from Evans, Bridgerton’s René-Jean Page, Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Goulding, Kick-Ass’ Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Luther’s Idris Elba have also been rumoured to be in the running for the part.
