FX has shared the first trailer for their upcoming mystery thriller series, A Murder at the End of the World.

Set to air on Disney Plus in the UK, the limited series follows detective Darby Hart (played by Emma Corrin), a “Gen Z amateur sleuth and tech-savvy hacker”.

Clive Owen (Impeachment: American Crime Story), Harris Dickinson (Postcards from London), Brit Marling (The OA), Alice Braga (We Are Who We Are), Joan Chen (Twin Peaks), Raúl Esparza (Hannibal), Edoardo Ballerini (Boardwalk Empire) and Pegah Ferydoni (Almania) round out the cast.

The official synopsis reads: “Darby and eight other guests are invited by a reclusive billionaire (Clive Owen) to participate in a retreat at a remote and dazzling location. When one of the other guests is found dead, Darby must use all of her skills to prove it was murder against a tide of competing interests and before the killer takes another life.”

“I sometimes wonder, would it have been better not to go?” Hart says at the start of the eerie trailer, which is set to an equally eerie cover of ‘Strangelove’ by Depeche Mode. “I think about it like a coin toss, when your life can go one way, or another. When you’re trapped at the end of the world, there’s no going back.”

Creepy imagery lingers throughout the trailer, including a group of unknown people in horror masks, a bloodied Darby in the snow and Owen’s character being rather sinister (it’s the smile). He later asks someone – presumably Hart – “Why is it, wherever you go, death follows?”

A Murder at the End of the World is created and directed by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, who executive produced alongside Andrea Sperling, Melanie Marnich and Nicki Paluga. The seven-episode series premieres on Disney Plus in the UK and Ireland this August.

Corrin is best known for playing Diana, Princess of Wales in the fourth season of Netflix’s historical drama The Crown, for which they received universal critical acclaim and a Golden Globe Award, in addition to a Primetime Emmy nomination.

The star also received praise for roles in My Policeman and Lady Chatterley’s Lover. They have also been confirmed to star in Robert Eggers’ reboot of the horror classic Nosferatu alongside Lily-Rose Depp, Bill Skarsgård and Nicholas Hoult, as well as Deadpool 3.

A Murder at the End of the World premieres 14 November on Hulu.

A UK date is yet to be confirmed.
