Wednesday star Emma Myers has expressed her hopes of the titular character embracing her “singleness” in season two.
Back in November, Netflix released the highly anticipated fantasy teen drama based on the beloved Addams Family character.
The show, which is executive produced by Tim Burton, follows Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) as she enrols in the mysterious Nevermore Academy – which was once attended by her parents, Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez Adams (Luis Guzmán).
As she tries to navigate her new surroundings, the 16-year-old soon finds herself with psychic abilities and at the centre of a local murder investigation.
While the show has earned critical acclaim and broken an array of streaming records for Netflix, the series earned particular praise from LGBTQ+ viewers – who have shipped Ortega’s character with her optimistic werewolf roommate Enid Sinclair (Myers).
Amid the rising popularity of “Wenclair,” Myers opened up to Variety about her thoughts on the pairing and if she’s seen the various fan posts on social media.
“I’m not on Twitter, and I’m not really on social media very much, but my sisters find it amusing to send me stuff. Fan art, tweets talking about it,” she revealed.
“My Instagram comments are flooded with it, and so are my DMs. So yeah, I have seen it.”
When asked if she thinks a “Wenclair” romance will be featured in the recently announced second season, Myers replied that “anything is possible.”

“We haven’t really spoken about direction at all, so I don’t really know what the game plan is for anything,” she said.
The Glades star then expressed her hopes of Wednesday staying single in the new batch of episodes, due to the shocking events of season one.
“As far as love interests go for Wednesday, I feel like, at least for a second season, she needs to take her season of singleness,” she said. “She had a whole fiasco with her men, she’s got to lay it off for a little bit.”
Myers’ comments come a few weeks after the show’s creators – Al Gough and Miles Millar – supported the idea of a possible Wednesday and Enid romance in future seasons.
“For us, this show also is really about this female friendship with Wednesday and Enid really being at the centre of that. The fact that they really connected with audiences, it has been really gratifying,” Gough told The Hollywood Reporter.
While the two creators refrained from confirming a future “Wenclair” romance, they did admit that they are “open to anything.”
“We have a roadmap, and we’d like to have routes along that map that take you in unexpected directions. So we’re open to everything. We wanna explore that friendship in every way,” Millar explained.
“But we’re not gonna be, this is where you sometimes get misdirected by fans and things like that, so it’s just being really open to see how those characters develop and that friendship.”
