Grammy winner Sam Smith is headed to the Sex and the City universe.

On 23 February, the Stay With Me singer took to Instagram to reveal that they would be making their acting debut in HBO’s And Just Like That.

“Up to something unholy on set,” they wrote alongside two photos of them near their trailer.

In response to Smith’s cryptic post, fans flocked to the comment section to express their excitement for the singer’s upcoming role.

One person wrote: “Omggg, I’m so excited for the next season.”

Another fan commented: “I always knew you were an actor too, Sam.”

Smith’s announcement was also celebrated by some of the show’s cast members.

Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbs) wrote: “And just like that… it’s getting hot.”

Sara Ramirez, who made waves with their non-binary character Che Diaz, added: “I’m so excited for this!”

Back in December 2021, fans of Sex and the City were finally treated to its highly anticipated sequel series, And Just Like That.

Picking up 11 years after the events of Sex and the City 2, the new batch of episodes follows Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristen Davis) as they navigate friendship, sexuality and unexpected life changes in their 50s.

The revival also introduced an array of new characters, including documentarian Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker), Columbia law professor Dr Nya Wallace (Karen Pittman), and real estate broker Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury).

While the series received mixed reviews from critics upon its release, HBO Max renewed AJLT in March 2022.

“I am delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters – played by these powerful, amazing actors,” Michael Patrick King said in a statement. “The fact is, we’re all thrilled. And Just Like That… our Sex life is back.”

Over the last few months, new information has come out about the upcoming season – including the return of John Corbett as fan favourite character Aiden Shaw.

According to a report from Deadline, the My Big Fat Greek Wedding star is set to have a “substantial, multi-episode arc.”

While details on Corbett’s role have been kept under wraps, the show’s Instagram account has seemingly confirmed that Carrie and Aiden will be rekindling their romance in season two.

We can’t wait to see Smith make their acting debut.
