Netflix has celebrated Heartstopper’s one year anniversary with a mysterious new teaser.

On 22 April 2022, LGBTQ+ TV enthusiasts were finally treated to the eight-episode young adult series based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel of the same name.

The show follows Charlie Spring (Joe Locke), a “high-strung, openly gay over-thinker,” and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), “a cheerful, soft-hearted rugby player”, as they explore their blossoming romantic relationship and the pressures of coming out.

Following its release, the series earned rave reviews from critics and received numerous accolades, including the Children’s and Family Emmy Award for Outstanding Young Teen Series.

Due to its continued popularity, Heartstopper was renewed for not one but two additional seasons by the popular streamer.

To celebrate the show’s one year anniversary, Netflix took to its social media channels to surprise fans with a special video message from the show’s cast.

In addition to the mysterious Heartstopper announcement, Netflix UK confirmed that new information for other “UK/IE titles” would also be released next week.

“It’s been an incredibly intense few months on set with many new challenges for the cast and crew, but everyone rose to those challenges with such passion and skill and determination,” the beloved author wrote.

“Huge thanks to every single member of the cast and crew – everyone has worked ridiculously hard and given it their all, and for that, I am eternally grateful. This season is going to be so magical, and I can’t wait to get started on post-production!”
