Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for Ryan Murphy’s new series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, starring Evan Peters.

Back in 2021, Deadline reported that Murphy and Ian Brennan were creating a show chronicling the infamous story of one of the most notorious serial killers in the world.

Between 1978 and 1991, the Milwaukee native murdered and dismembered 17 men, with many of his later murders including necrophilia and cannibalism.

However, unlike other Dahmer-focused adaptations, Murphy’s series will be told from the point of view of his victims.

It’s also set to tackle the police incompetence and Dahmer’s white privilege, as his attractive and clean-cut image resulted in lenient ‘punishments’ from authorities and judges.

In an interview with Netflix, Peters said of the series: “We had one rule going into this from Ryan that it would never be told from Dahmer’s point of view.

“As an audience, you’re not really sympathizing with him, you’re not really getting into his plight, you’re more sort of watching it, you know, from the outside.”

Nash, who plays Dahmer’s suspicious neighbour Glenda Cleveland, described the story’s theme as “timeless” in an additional interview with the streamer.

“The theme of this entire piece is timeless. You still have people doing very bizarre things because they are either mentally ill, suffering some sort of trauma managing or not managing their pain well,” she explained.

“You also still have communities that are being underserved, being over-policed in the wrong way. You still have communities and people crying out for change and to be heard by the police, by the powers that be.

“And I say that specifically as it relates to the Glenda Cleveland portion of the story.”

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story also stars Molly Ringwald as Shari Dahmer, Richard Jenkins as Lionel Dahmer, Michael Learned as Catherine Dahmer, Karen Malina White as Shirley Hughes, Phet Mahathongdy as Somdy Sinthasomphone, Shaun J. Brown as Tracy Edwards, and Nick A Fisher as Young Jeffrey Dahmer.

The 10-episode series is set to premiere on 21 September via Netflix.
