The third season of HBO’s hit series Euphoria has hit an unexpected roadblock.
Back in August, Collider reported that the teen drama’s third entry would start filming in early 2023, with a release date scheduled for 2024.
While fans at the time found solace in the news, it looks like the rumoured start date has been pushed back.
According to Vogue’s recent interview with Euphoria’s Maude Apatow, the third season will now be filming in the latter half of 2023 –which will likely push back the release date.
When asked if she knew anything about the new batch of episodes, the Little Shop of Horrors star replied: “I honestly don’t know a single thing. We should be getting scripts and hearing about next season soon-ish, but I’m totally in the dark.”
While the update may be a letdown for fans, the season three schedule change doesn’t come as a surprise.
Over the last year, Zendaya, Apatow, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie and Jacob Elordi have been busy filming or booking various high-profile projects.
The recent Euphoria news comes a few months after Zendaya expressed her hopes for season three.
During an awards season Q&A, the Spider-Man: Homecoming star said her one wish for Rue was “[to] literally just to be able to be alive and maybe enjoy it.”
“I know that she can do it because Sam wrote it, and Sam is Rue, and he’s done it,” the Dune star continued. “He’s proof that there is hope for Rue and anyone like Rue, and from the beautiful letters and people who have reached out.
“I am so grateful for those experiences when somebody comes up to me, and they speak about Rue and how they’ve connected to her or whatever part of their healing journey she has been able to be a part of.
“To me, that is the greatest, greatest gift I can ever ask, it gives me Euphoria and purpose in what I do. [..] I just hope for a little bit of joy and for her just to be able to breathe and love without the fear of losing.
“I mean, she’s gonna have to go through some things, yes, but you know, we’ll get there.”
Here’s to hoping that Euphoria season three will come sooner rather than later.
