Doctor Who fans rejoice! We finally have new information about Yasmin Finney’s role in the show.

In November, TV viewers will finally be treated to the 60th anniversary specials of the popular sci-fi series.

The exciting event will see David Tennant return as the 14th Doctor and Catherine Tate reprising her role as Donna Noble.

Alongside Tennant and Tate’s return, the three new episodes will feature a slew of new characters, including Finney as the mysterious Rose.

Over the last year, fans have anxiously awaited for more information about the Heartstopper star’s role and where she fits into the Doctor Who universe.

Fortunately on 30 August, the BBC finally confirmed the backstory of Finney’s character with a tweet honouring the young talent’s birthday.

“Welcome to the #DoctorWho family, Rose Noble. Wishing a very happy birthday to Yasmin Finney, whose character Rose is the daughter of companion Donna Noble (played by Catherine Tate) and Shaun Temple (Karl Collins),” they wrote.

In addition to her family backstory, the announcement also gave a small hint regarding Rose’s exciting adventure ahead.

“So the question is, what happens when Rose meets one of her mum’s oldest friends? It is a mystery for now, but what we do know is that just like her mother, Rose stumbles across something alien – and from that point her seemingly ordinary family is never quite the same,” the BBC added in an additional tweet.

In response to the news, fans flocked to social media to express their excitement over Finney’s new character.

One person wrote: “I’m already loving Rose so much just for the record.”

Another fan tweeted: “Donna’s daughter all grown up already. Time flies!! Can’t wait to learn more about the years we missed in this family. And what will happen with them and the Doctor of course.”

The 20-year star first made waves with Doctor Who fans in 2022 after the BBC and showrunner Russell T Davies announced her casting.

“This show has a place in so many people’s hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself, Russell [T Davies], has not only made my year, it’s made my life,” she said in a statement following her casting.

Davies echoed similar sentiments in an additional statement at the time.

“Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder – how can there be another Rose? You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set,” he teased.

“We all fell in love with her in Heartstopper, one of those shows which changes the world – and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse.”
