Ncuti Gatwa as Doctor Who

The BBC has finally released the first official photos of Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th Doctor.

Over the last few months, fans have been clamouring for more information regarding the Sex Education star and his upcoming run as the beloved Time Lord.

Back in October, viewers were given a quick glimpse at Gatwa in the titular role during the explosive trailer for the show’s 2023 specials – which also featured the return of David Tennant as the 14th Doctor.

Since the trailer’s release, Doctor Who creatives have refrained from giving additional details surrounding the young talent’s debut until now.

On 17 December, the show’s social media channels formally introduced the beloved actor as the Doctor and Millie Gibson as his new companion Ruby Sunday.

“Introducing the Doctor and Ruby Sunday, played by Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson ❤️❤️➕🟦,” they wrote on social media.

In an additional post, the two actors playfully showcased their character’s signature outfits – which featured Gatwa in a bright orange top with a matching plaid peacoat and trousers combo and Gibson dressed in blue shorts, a patterned top and a denim jacket.

Shortly after the post was uploaded, fans flocked to social media to express their excitement over the characters.

One fan tweeted: “Really cool… and you can feel the chemistry between the two already.”

Another person wrote: “What really makes this sing is the little touches. The moustache, the necklaces, the jumper you could swap out, the rings and the little drawings on his nails – there’s something really classic and austere, but also very young and queer about this look.”

The recent Doctor Who news comes a month after the series’ showrunner Russell T Davies teased that the new episodes will be full of “mystery, horror and danger.”

“If you thought the appearance of David Tennant was a shock, we’ve got plenty more surprises on the way,” he said in a statement.

“The path to Ncuti’s Fifteenth Doctor is laden with mystery, horror, robots, puppets, danger and fun! And how is it connected to the return of the wonderful Donna Noble? How, what, why? We’re giving you a year to speculate, and then all hell lets loose!”

As of this writing, the release date for Gatwa’s Doctor Who debut is still being kept under wraps.
