Fans are convinced that the new season of 9-1-1 will feature a long-awaited gay romance.

Since 2018, TV viewers around the world have immersed themselves in the shocking and chaotic drama created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear.

Starring American Horror Story alum Angela Bassett and I Know What You Did Last Summer star Jennifer Love Hewitt, the series follows a group of Los Angeles police officers, paramedics, firefighters and dispatchers as they put their lives at risk to help save civilians from terrifying situations.

Since its release, the show has received acclaim from fans and critics, particularly for its adrenaline-pumping action, Bassett’s leading performance, and its emotional storylines.

9-1-1 has also cultivated a dedicated LGBTQIA+ fanbase, with many queer viewers embracing firefighters Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz (Guzman) and Evan “Buck” Buckley (Oliver Stark).

While the writers have portrayed Eddie and Buck as straight and close friends, fans have shipped the two characters, affectionately known as “Buddie,” due to their electric chemistry.

The show’s creators have somewhat acknowledged the ship, adding playful Easter eggs throughout the series.

However, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Guzman teased that the slow-burn “Buddie” romance might become a reality in season seven.

“We get closer than ever this season. I can only tease that and there’s a lot of changes in the relationship and how we interact… all those things,” he revealed to the news outlet

Toward the end of his statement, Guzman added that the show is “trying to give the audience what they want.”

Stark echoed similar sentiments in a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, adding that Eddie and Buck are set to show up for each other in “different ways.”

“They’re moving forward. There’s almost potential for things to come up in a not-so-great light, but we get to see their friendship persevering,” he explained.

“[Like] Them being there for each other in ways that they didn’t necessarily expect for each other. I just think it’s a really lovely journey for them this season.”

It didn’t take long for fans to flock to social media to express their excitement over the “Buddie” ship potentially becoming canon.

One viewer wrote: “The scream I just scrumpt, Ryan Guzman.”

Another fan tweeted: “I’m usually not a big believer in Buddie ever becoming canon, but these interviews are getting to me…”

A third person added: “IS HE TRYING TO DRIVE ME INSANE? WHAT DOES HE MEAN? CLOSER THAN EVER? GIVE THE AUDIENCE WHAT THEY WANT? RYAN REALLY IS GIVING US EVERYTHING AFTER BEING IN PR JAIL. BUDDIE CANON.”

With 9-1-1 season seven recently kicking off on 14 March, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see if “Buddie” becomes canon.
