Swifties rejoice! Taylor Swift has announced the name and release date for her 10th studio album.

On 28 August, the beloved pop star made a surprise appearance at the 2022 MTV VMAs in a show-stopping crystal ensemble.

During the larger-than-life award show, the Blank Space singer earned the coveted Video of The Year award for her emotional 10-minute version of All Too Well.

After thanking her expansive fanbase for their endless support, Swift shocked viewers when she announced that she would be releasing her landmark 10th studio album.

“I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that my brand new album comes out on 21 October,” she said.

Shortly after her appearance, the pop star revealed that the aforementioned record would be titled Midnights in a follow-up post on social media.

“We lie awake in love and in fear, in turmoil and in tears. We stare at walls and drink until they speak back. We twist in our self-made cages and pray that we aren’t – right this minute – about to make some fateful life-altering mistake,” she wrote.

“This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face.

“For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching – hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve… we’ll meet ourselves. Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out October 21. Meet me at Midnight.”

Shortly after the Grammy winner revealed the news, Swifties around the world flocked to social media to share their excitement and theories.

One fan tweeted: “Taylor Swift didn’t write “it’s 2 am feeling like I just lost a friend” and “lit through the darkness at 1:58” and “the lingering question kept me up, 2 am who do you love?” and “I want your midnights” for this to not become one of her greatest albums.”

Another fan wrote: “Taylor Swift dropping an album in October on a date that adds up to 13 called “midnights” with 13 songs she wrote in the middle of the night is the most Taylor Swift thing Taylor Swift has ever done.”

While Swift has refrained from announcing the tracklist, she did reveal that the record would feature a Side A and a Side B.

Midnights follows the release of her hit eighth and ninth studio albums, Folklore and Evermore.

The records, which were described as “sister albums”, featured an array of hit singles, including Willow, Cardigan, Betty and Gold Rush.

We’re counting down the days till Midnights!
