Pop icon Britney Spears has opened up about her divorce from Sam Asghari in a new social media post

Earlier this week, TMZ reported that the Princess of Pop and her husband were calling it quits after one year of marriage.

At the time of the report, various rumours circulated regarding the cause of their break up – ranging from cheating accusations to explosive fights.

Since the news made headlines, Spears has remained mum on the situation… until now.

On 18 August, the Grammy winner uploaded a video of her dancing alongside a heartfelt caption regarding the divorce.

“As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together… 6 years is a long time to be with someone, so I’m shocked, but I’m not here to explain why because it’s nobody’s business,” she wrote.

“But, I couldn’t take the pain anymore, honestly! In some sort of telepathic way I have been receiving so many messages that melt my heart from friends, and I thank you!”

The ‘Lucky’ singer added that she’s been “playing it strong for way too long” before stating that her reality is very different from what she posts on social media.

“My Instagram may seem perfect but it’s far from reality and I think we all know that,” she said.

Towards the end of her statement, Spears revealed that she would love to show her emotions but has always felt like she needed to hide her “weaknesses”.

“If I wasn’t my dad’s strong soldier, I would be sent away to places to get fixed by doctors !!! But that’s when I needed family the most,” she continued.

“You’re supposed to be loved unconditionally … not under conditions !!!! So I will be as strong as I can and do my best !!! And I’m actually doing pretty damn good !!! Anyways have a good day, and don’t forget to smile.”

While Spears has turned off the ability to comment on her Instagram posts, fans flocked to Twitter (also known as X) to send supportive messages to the singer-songwriter.

One fan wrote: “Omg Britney stay strong! We are here for you!! I’m so glad you left him because he didn’t deserve you!! And I’m so glad that you aren’t going to allow anyone nor family or husband to disrespect you!!”

Another fan tweeted: “This woman is overdue for some peace and quiet away from people trying to control her.”

Spears and Asghari first met in 2016 on the set of her music video for ‘Slumber Party’.

After nearly six years of dating, the beloved singer and the aspiring actor announced they were getting married in September 2021.

“I can’t f**king believe it,” the ‘Overprotected’ singer wrote at the time.

In June 2022, the pair tied the knot in an intimate ceremony with 60 guests, including A-list stars like Drew Barrymore, Madonna, Paris Hilton and Selena Gomez.

Aside from her divorce, Spears is gearing up for the release of her tell-all memoir, The Woman in Me – which is set to drop on 24 October.
