Britney Spears and Elton John have finally announced the release date for their highly anticipated duet.

Since July, fans of the Baby One More Time singer have been gearing up for the release of Hold Me Closer.

The track, which is Spears’ first release since her conservatorship was terminated, is set to be a brand new version of John’s classic soft-rock track Tiny Dancer.

In the last few weeks, the two pop icons have taken to social media and teased the track with potential artwork and photos.

On 19 August, John finally revealed that the single would be released on 26 August.

Taking to Twitter, the Rocketman singer also uploaded artwork for the single, which features adorable throwback photos of the two as kids.

Spears and John’s Hold Me Closer news comes a day after a leak of the aforementioned single appeared on social media.

After the alleged snippets made waves online, fans took to Twitter to support the Me Against The Music singer while slamming anyone who shared the leak.

One fan wrote: “I will wait for the official release of Britney Spears and Elton John’s Hold Me Closer. NO to leaks! I will support this so hard.”

Another fan tweeted: “Honestly, this fanbase is wack sometimes. Britney Spears’ first song as a free woman since 2007, and y’all couldn’t be patient? You just had to go ahead and leak that shit and be spreading it like wildfire. It’s lousy and disrespectful.”

Hold Me Closer comes six years after Spears released her ninth studio album Glory – which was met with overwhelmingly positive reviews from fans and critics.

The album featured singles such as Make Me and the Tinashe-assisted Slumber Party, as well as fan-favourite tracks Clumsy, Do You Wanna Come Over? and Private Show.

We’re counting down the days to Britney Spears’ grand return to music.
