Get your tissues ready! The first trailer for Jim Parsons and Ben Aldridge’s new LGBTQ+ dramedy Spoiler Alert has arrived.

The film, which is directed by The Big Sick’s Michael Showalter, follows the heartwarming love story between Michael Ausiello (Parsons) and his late husband, Kit Cowan (Aldridge) – who was diagnosed with “a rare and merciless form of neuroendocrine cancer” in 2014.

While the movie is set to explore the early days of their relationship, the dramedy will also highlight the “emotionally turbulent 11-month” period from [Cowan’s] diagnosis with terminal cancer to his death.”

“Interwoven in the narrative are glimpses of the roller-coaster ride that was the couple’s 14-year romance,” the synopsis adds.

The film is based on the TV Line founder’s critically acclaimed memoir Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Other Four-Letter Words.

At the start of the trailer, Parson and Aldridge’s characters are partaking in their first date – which results in the two admitting quirky details about one another.

“Childhood obsessions: Christmas,” Michael says, to which Kit responds: “Magic.”

As the teaser progresses, the two love birds are hit with a massive blow when a doctor delivers distressing news about Kit’s health.

“I’ve always imagined that my life was like a typical romantic comedy,” Michael says in a voice-over.

“Looking back, this is less of a rom-com and more of a love story, and like all love stories, it never actually ends.”

Academy Award winner Sally Field, Legion’s Bill Irwin, The Book of Mormon star Nikki M. James, Search Party’s Jeffrey Self, Ringer’s Tara Summers and Queer Eye’s Antoni Porowski are all set to star alongside Parsons and Aldridge in the film.

Spoiler Alert is scheduled to hit theatres in the US on 9 December and worldwide on 16 December.
