Hulu and Spyglass Media have unveiled the first images from David Bruckner’s upcoming film Hellraiser.

Back in October, Deadline confirmed that Sense8’s Jamie Clayton would be starring as Pinhead in a new reboot on Hulu.

The report also revealed that the project had already wrapped filming and secured Clive Barker – author of the Hellraiser novels and writer/director of the original film – as one of its producers.

Ever since, horror enthusiasts have been eager to find out more information on the upcoming film.

Fortunately for fans, the popular streamer and Spyglass have dropped a batch of new photos from the project on 1 September.

In the first look images, which were released via Entertainment Weekly (EW), a clear look at Pinhead can be seen for the first time.

The terrifying photos also feature actress Odessa A’zion, who’s set to play Riley, and a new Cenobite by the name of The Masque.

In an additional interview with EW, Bruckner gave further insight into the film and revealed that the new feature is “not a remake.”

“I just didn’t think you could ever remake the original Hellraiser. It’s too much its own thing, and it would be, I think, perilous territory for filmmakers, because how do you top that? This is a new story in the Hellraiser universe,” he explained.

The Night House director also opened up about casting Clayton as the iconic Pinhead, stating: “We felt a kind of anticipation around the fans to reimagine the character.

“We knew we wanted Pinhead to be a woman. Jamie was just the right person for the role. A person’s identity can be really exciting for a role in many ways, but I have to emphasize that Jamie absolutely killed, that’s how we got there.”

Towards the end of his interview, Bruckner also expressed his hopes for a sequel “should the fans and the movie gods allow it.”

“I feel like I speak for our whole team, the SFX, the VFX, and the production design, we learned a lot on this. It’s tempting to think we’d have an amazing grip on it going forward, should there be an energy and an appetite for it,” he said.

According to the synopsis, Hellraiser follows “a young woman struggling with addiction who comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.”

Adam Faison, Goran Visnjic, Kit Clarke, Drew Starkey, Zachary Hig, Brandon Flynn, Hiam Abbass, Aoife Hinds, Selina Lo, Jason Liles, and Yinka Olorunnife are also set to star in the film.

Hellraiser is set to premiere on 7 October via Hulu.
