Attention Wicked fans! Jonathan Bailey has spilt the tea on the upcoming film adaptation.

On 27 November 2024, fans will finally be treated to the highly anticipated movie musical Wicked: Part 1.

Based on Gregory Maguire’s bestselling novel of the same name, the epic musical fantasy will explore how the misunderstood green-skinned Elphaba Thropp (Cynthia Erivo) became the Wicked Witch of the West; as well as her unlikely friendship with the future “Good Witch” of Oz, Glinda Upland (Ariana Grande).

With the film’s release date nearly a year away, fans have waited with anticipation for more information regarding the movie musical.

Fortunately, Fellow Travelers star Bailey – who is set to play Fiyero Tigelaar – teased some exciting new details about Wicked: Part 1 in a recent interview with E! News.

“I think fans of the original musical should prepare to get their minds blown,” he exclaimed.

“It’s such a psychologically rich material. And we know it as really exciting theater with an incredible score and amazing numbers, but when you put it on film, the reality of these characters and nuances of their psychology, it’s just going to blow everyone’s mind.”

After gushing about the movie’s “amazing” production value, Bailey went on to praise Michelle Yeoh’s upcoming performance as the villainous Madame Morrible.

“I mean, who doesn’t want Michelle Yeoh and everyone else sort of dancing around and singing? It’s gonna be amazing,” he added.

Bailey’s exciting interview comes a few months after Chu shared two brand-new stills from the project.

“You weren’t told the whole story. What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road? FIRST LOOK of the #WickedMovie… currently in production in Oz,” he wrote.

The first photo shows Erivo as Elphaba atop what looks to be a clock tower. Like her stage musical counterpart, the talented singer wears a black cloak and matching witch hat while gripping a broomstick.

In the second photo, Grande’s Glinda can be seen running up a flight of stairs – presumable towards Elphaba – sporting a dazzling bright pink gown and the character’s iconic blonde hair.

As previously mentioned, Wicked: Part 1 is set to be released on 27 November 2024, with Wicked: Part 2 dropping on 26 November 2025.

In addition to Grande, Erivo, Yeoh and Bailey, the two films will star Jeff Goldblum as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Ethan Slater as Boq, and Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp.

More stars incoming: Bowen Yang as Pfannee, Bronwyn James as ShenShen, Keala Settle as Miss Coddle, Aaron Teoh as Avaric and Colin Michael Carmichael as Professor Nikidik.
