Grab your stakes and high heels! Drag Race season 16 is set to feature an epic Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossover.

On 6 December, MTV unveiled the 14 new queens vying for the title of ‘America’s Next Drag Superstar’: Amanda Tori Meating, Dawn, Geneva Karr, Hershii LiqCour-Jeté, Megami, Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige, Mirage, Morphine Love Dion, Nymphia Wind, Plane Jane, Plasma, Q, Sapphira Cristál and Xunami Muse.

Like season 15, the new batch of contestants are set to compete in a variety of maxi-challenges, runway walks, and lip-sync smackdowns for a chance at winning $200,000.

Nearly a week after announcing the sickening cast, World of Wonder and MTV surprised fans with a gagworthy season 16 trailer, teasing the new crop of guest judges.

The lineup is as follows: Charlize Theron, Becky G, Adam Shankman, Icona Pop (Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo), Isaac Mizrahi, Jamal Sims, Joel Kim Booster, Kaia Gerber, Kelsea Ballerini, Kyra Sedgwick, Law Roach, Mayan Lopez, and Ronan Farrow.

However, one guest judge that truly left fans gagged was everyone’s favourite vampire slayer and chosen one, Sarah Michelle Gellar.

“Ru, I’ve been slaying bitches forever,” the I Know What You Did Last Summer star exclaimed in the teaser.

Shortly after the trailer was released, Gellar celebrated her Drag Race debut on Instagram, writing: “The secrets out…. I finally get to be judge on @rupaulsdragrace.”

It didn’t take long before fans flocked to social media to share their excitement over the Cruel Intentions star’s inclusion.

One viewer wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) wrote: “Wait BUFFY THEE VAMPIRE SLAYER is guest judging season 16 of Drag Race???”

Another fan posted: “Sarah Michele Geller being a guest judge on Drag Race in 2024…. gay Buffy fans everywhere truly worked together to manifest this moment.”

A third Drag Race enthusiast added: “If the episode she’s judging isn’t an acting challenge featuring a Drag version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with about 1000 puns on “Slay”, then what are we even doing here?!”

Lastly, one fan expressed their hopes for the new season to feature a Buffy-themed musical episode, writing: “If there isn’t a Buffy Rusical, I’m gonna riot.”

Alongside Gellar’s highly anticipated appearance, Drag Race season 16 is set to be full of unforgettable moments, starting with its jampacked split premiere.

The season will also feature a new All-Stars-esque format called “Rate a Queen,” which allows the contestants to rate each other’s performances to determine the top and bottom of the week.
