Troye Sivan has shared the video for his new single ‘Got Me Started’.

The follow-up to his acclaimed comeback banger ‘Rush’, the track is another pulsating, club-ready anthem. The choreo-heavy video, which was created by the same team behind his viral ‘Rush’ visual, sees Sivan dance on the streets of Bangkok, Thailand, with a squad of dancers.

‘Got Me Started’ was produced by Ian Kirkpatrick and samples the 2008 song ‘Shooting Stars’ by Australian duo Bag Raiders. It features songwriting credits from Sivan’s longtime collaborator Leland, as well as Tayla Parx and Kaelyn Behr.

In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Sivan opened up about the creative process behind ‘Got Me Started’ and how the sample came to fruition.

“It was one of the first songs that we wrote for the album and it just stuck around. They [Bag Raiders] were like, “By the way, we’ve had hundreds of requests and we’ve never said, ‘Yeah, so don’t f*** this up.'”And I was like, “I promise you, I’m going to make a video. It’s going to be sick.” Like, I really believe in this,” he revealed.

“And I also, I think it’s tacky when people sample something like out of term, you know what I mean? And I really, really, really didn’t want to do that. And I wouldn’t be doing this if I felt like that’s what I was doing. You know, it was something that came in the studio naturally. I started seeing the sample laughing because I was like, there’s no way that they’re ever going to let me do this.

“So while we were in the studio, I texted my A&R from Australia. And obviously because we’re all Australians, it was like within 20 minutes he had reached them and I get this text with the stem in my phone. I’ll never forget the moment I like play and it just came out so clean completely like solo. And I was like, oh my God. And we put it in and it worked.”

Sivan described the video as “euphoric” and “total freedom”.

‘Got Me Started’ is the second single from his forthcoming third studio album, Something to Give Each Other, which is out 13 October.

A press release described the album as a celebration of “sex, dance, sweat, community, queerness, love, and friendship”: “Emerging from the tribulations of the last few years, Sivan found himself rewiring with the joy of human connection and dance music.”
