Mother… has spoken. RuPaul has revealed which iconic Drag Race star should’ve taken home the crown on their season.

On a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked the Emmy-winning host: “Is there someone who didn’t win Drag Race over all the seasons, that in your mind [you think should have won]?”

Almost immediately, RuPaul answered: “Shangela. Shangela. She’s amazing. We’ve actually put her on the show, like, three times? Something like that. She’s a fabulous queen.”

Shangela made her franchise debut on the show’s second season. After being eliminated in last place, RuPaul recognised her potential and brought her back the following year, where she won two challenges and landed in sixth place.

Shangela subsequently became the first queen to compete on three seasons when she sashayed into the werkroom doors for All Stars 3. As the queen with the most challenge wins heading into the final, Shangela was poised to succeed Alaska in the Drag Race Hall of Fame.

However, a jury twist – which is widely regarded as the worst decision in the show’s history – saw her exit the season in joint third/fourth place, and Trixie Mattel ultimately won the title and $100,000.

Since her last Drag Race stint, Shangela has gone on to star alongside Bob the Drag Queen and Eureka O’Hara in HBO’s We’re Here, which follows the legendary trio as they travel across the U.S. and recruit small-town residents to participate in drag shows.

The series, which recently launched its third season, has won two Primetime Emmy Awards.

More recently, Shangela halleloo’d her way to the final of the 31st season of Dancing with the Stars with partner Gleb Savchenko. Although she was the favourite to win the series, she finished in fourth place. (Robbed, again!).
