Netflix has unveiled the first set of photos from Andrew Scott’s new show Ripley.

Based on Patricia Highsmith’s best-selling novels, the upcoming series follows Tom Ripley (Scott), a struggling grifter living in 1960s New York. His life is forever changed when he gets hired by a wealthy man to bring his “vagabond son” back from Italy.

“Tom’s acceptance of the job is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder,” the synopsis adds.

The eight-episode limited series is created, written and directed by Oscar-winning screenwriter Steven Zaillian, who previously received acclaim for Schindler’s List (1993), Awakenings (1990), Gangs of New York (2002) and The Irishman (2019).

In addition to Scott, Ripley is set to feature Johnny Flynn (Emma) as the rebellious and wealthy Dickie Greenleaf, whom Tom is tasked with bringing home.

The Runaways star Dakota Fanning is also leading the series as Marge Sherwood, Dickie’s mysterious girlfriend that seems to have dark ulterior motives.

While Netflix has remained mum on the exact release date for Ripley, the streamer did share three black-and-white first-look photos.

In one snapshot, the Fleabag star is shown looking concerned in the back of a car and dressed in all black.

The second photo features Scott standing on a beautiful balcony overlooking the ocean.

Lastly, the third image showcases the Sherlock actor walking up a flight of stairs to the Hotel Bolivar.

The upcoming Ripley series is the latest adaptation of the beloved crime novel, The Talented Mr. Ripley.

In 1999, Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Cate Blanchett and Philip Seymour Hoffman starred in the popular film iteration, which earned over $128 million at the box office and five Academy Award nominations, including Best Screenplay.

Aside from Ripley, 2024 is looking to be a busy year for Scott, with his highly anticipated fantasy drama, All of Us Strangers, premiering in UK cinemas on 26 January 2024.

Based on the novel Strangers by Japanese novelist Taichi Yamada, the film follows screenwriter Adam (Scott) as his monotonous everyday life is forever changed following a chance encounter with his mysterious neighbour Harry (Paul Mescal) and the mysterious return of his deceased parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell).

Scott is also set to star in the animated adaptation of Heart of Darkness and Cameron Diaz’s comeback film, Back in Action.

Ripley is set to premiere sometime in 2024.
