The BBC has revealed the first images of new gay drama Lost Boys & Fairies.

The series will explore the “tender” relationship between singer and artist Gabriel (Sion Daniel Young) and his partner Andy (Fra Fee) “in their journey to adoption,” the official synopsis revealed.

Fra Fee is best known for his performance in Hawkeye and London’s Cabaret revival. Shortly after the drop of the images Fee took to Instagram to say he was “so excited for this stunner of a story”.

The drama was filmed in and around Cardiff. “Where production brought to life Gabriel’s performances at queer club-space ‘Neverland’, charting his journey of self-discovery as he grapples with memories of his childhood, attempting to repair his relationship with his dad before becoming a parent himself, ” the synopsis added.

The cast also includes Elizabeth Berrington (Stella), Olivier Award-winner Sharon D Clarke (Showtrial), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Outlander), Arwel Gruffydd (Tess of the D’Urbervilles), Shaheen Jafargholi (EastEnders), Mali Ann Rees (The Pact), William Thomas (Torchwood), Gwyneth Keyworth (Alex Rider) and Gwawr Loader (Hidden).

The drama has been created and written by Daf James and directed by James Kent. Upon the announcement of filming James said: “‘I’m thrilled to be working with this world-class team to bring my personally inspired Welsh, queer, adoption story to screen authentically.”

Kent added: “Lost Boys and Fairies is the most beautiful love story I’ve read. Daf’s scripts are heart wrenching, very funny and powerful advocates for the right of gay men and women to parent a child. They left me in floods of tears and as a gay director I’m so excited and honoured to be bringing this story to the general public.”

Lost Boys & Fairies will be available to watch next year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
