Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis has opened up about being fearful for her trans daughter Ruby in a new interview.
Over the last few years, conservative politicians and lawmakers in the US have consistently targeted the rights and health care of trans citizens.
From Texas eliminating workplace protections for trans and non-binary workers to Oklahoma’s governor withholding federal funds from a hospital over gender-affirming care, the amount of hate toward the community has grown substantially.
In a new interview with the Spanish news outlet Cadena SER Radio, Curtis opened up about the alarming anti-trans attacks and her fears for her daughter Ruby.
“I have a trans daughter. There are threats against her life just [for] her existence as a human being. There are people that want to annihilate her and people like her,” she explained.
“The level of hatred is as if we had not learned from fascism, as if we hadn’t learned what the result of that is: the extermination of human beings. That’s terrifying.”
Towards the end of her interview, the Scream Queens star encouraged fans to use their voice to fight for trans rights.

“So Jamie Lee Curtis is scared, and you should be too. And Jamie Lee Curtis has a voice, and she’s trying to use it. And you should too,” she said.
“That’s how we change things. We think about them, we learn about them, and then we use our voices to bring attention to them and fight against them.”
Curtis’ latest comments come a few months after she slammed politicians like Texas Governor Greg Abbott for consistently attacking trans individuals.
“Today is the birthday of my trans daughter. I am proud and grateful to be the parent of a trans child and am sending support to all of the trans families across the US who are being targeted in this moment by conservative legislatures,” she wrote on Instagram.
“This country was founded on freedom. A profoundly simple idea that everyone living here should be free to dream and achieve what they want freely. OUR declaration of independence promises that we are endowed with certain unalienable rights, including Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
“Now politicians are proposing that parents providing gender-affirming care for THEIR OWN children are felons and deserve prison time. These laws are discriminatory, unjust, and anti-American. Freedom of expression includes gender expression!
