Elizabeth Hurley has addressed online controversy about appearing in an intimate moment with another woman in Strictly Confidential.

The Bedazzled actor has shared that she felt “liberated” being directed by her 21-year-old son Damian Hurley, who is making his directorial debut with the upcoming crime drama.

“A haunted young woman finds herself drawn into a world of seduction, duplicity and betrayal as she desperately tries to uncover the mystery surrounding her best friend’s suicide,” the official synopsis reads.

In the trailer, Elizabeth’s lead character Lily can be seen on a terrace when her love interest Natasha (Pear Chiravara) approaches her. After the pair share a passionate make-session, things intensify when Elizabeth’s character throws her head back in pleasure as Natasha seemingly starts to go down on her.

Strictly Confidential‘s trailer garnered a swirl of responses after its release, particularly when viewers came to the realisation that Elizabeth was directed by her son in the scene.

Fans were quick to comment. One said: “So, Damian directed his mom in a lesbian scene? That’s gonna be something to talk about at Christmas dinner.”

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Elizabeth said of the backlash: “The things that his script needed me to do weren’t necessarily things I’d always done in movies many times.

“But having him there meant that I felt safe and looked after, and I knew in (post-production) he’d look after me.”

Elizabeth found the added family dynamic felt freeing: “So, actually, it’s kind of liberating to work with your family. I may do it again.’

Damian continued to share his own thoughts of people finding the set-up “controversial”: “Showbusiness has been a fundamental part of my entire life. So to us, it’s not a thing. She takes my photos, I take hers.”

Back in 2022, Damian shared that the film had wrapped and praised his “beautiful and supreme mother” for her involvement.

“Everyone involved deserves public declarations of adoration (all of which will come in due course) but right now I want to worship @ElizabethHurley1 who, during the making of my first ever short film back in 2010 (when I was 8 ) promised me she’d be in my first feature; true to her word, the minute this film was greenlit, Mama dropped everything and raced out to the beautiful Caribbean to help. Working together was a dream.”

Alongside Elizabeth and Chiravara, the cast includes Georgia lock, Lauren McQueen, Freddie Thorp and Genevieve Gaunt.

Strictly Confidential has a release date of 5 April.
