Drag Race Down Under star Kween Kong has cleared up the “strange” events of the season three finale.
On last week’s episode (15 September), the Kiwi drag legend returned to the franchise as a choreographer for the queens’ main stage performance to RuPaul’s track ‘Crying on the Dance Floor’.
During the segment, Kween told the finalists – Flor, Gabriella Labucci and Isis Avis Loren – that she made the choreography “really hard on purpose” because of her status as Drag Race Down Under’s reigning “dancing diva”.
She memorably competed on the second season of the Australasian spin-off, where she placed joint runner-up with Hannah Conda behind Spankie Jackson. Kong was known for her high-energy lip-syncs, particularly her Mortal Kombat-esque showdown with Beverly Kills to RuPaul’s ‘The Beginning’.
“I am here to let these girls have it,” Kween explained in her confessional. “I don’t know if any of them are dancers, but I’m going to give it to them anyway.”
The queens struggled with the routine – particularly Flor and Gabriella – but seemed determined to pull it off on the main stage. However, when it came time for the trio to perform, the choreography – as well as the squad of dancers from rehearsal – had been completely removed.
Viewers were confused with the new choreography (or lack thereof), with one fan tweeting: “I was like I’m crazy because this isn’t what they showed earlier smh.”
Another said: “So strange they decided to keep all the practice in and still scrap everything… what was the point!”
In a tweet, Kween cleared up the confusion and clarified why the choreography ‘looked simple’.
“Just so we know / the dancers for the challenge were originally in the set and after two takes the were taken out and the CHOREO I made was scrapped and the queens were asked to “do their thing”,” she wrote.

The third season of Drag Race Down Under was won by – spoiler incoming – Isis Avis Loren, making herstory as the first Australian queen to win the series in the process.
Alongside her title as ‘Down Under’s Next Drag Superstar’, Isis took home a crown and a sceptre from Amped Accessories, a year’s supply of Anastasia Beverly Hills Cosmetics and $50,000.
Following her win, she told RuPaul and the panel: “You’re born in a star, and a star is born in you.”
