How drag-a-licious! The fourth season of Drag Race Down Under has been confirmed.

In an official statement from World of Wonder the call to action was announced: “G’day, g’day, g’day! Casting is NOW OPEN for #DragRaceDownUnder S4! If you have the Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, & Talent it takes to become Down Under’s Next Drag Superstar, we want to hear from you!”

In her three season herstory, Drag Race Down Under has been long shrouded in controversy; from non-existent budgets, racist scandals and odd swathes of favouritism.

Season one saw contestants Karen from Finance and Scarlet Adams were exposed for their racist pasts pre-season; igniting a conversation surrounding Australasia’s long-standing issue with people of colour.

The situation was exacerbated further when both queens made it to the final and Scarlet, who was called out for blackface on the main stage by RuPaul, dominated the season with three challenge wins.

Season two swiftly followed, still with a lack of gloss and polish from the production, yet there were clear signs of improvement with a new cast of queens that were full of charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent, coupled alongside fairer judging and an elite top three.

The Aussie spin-off began to resemble a quintessential phoenix rising from her drag ashes.

Alas, season three landed on screens and proved that maybe third time is not a charm (awkward). Season three premiered on 28 July and introduced 10 more queens. Although this cast (Down Under’s most diverse so far) gave us life with their shady antics, they were let down by various production-related injustices.

Fans were quick to react to the announcement of the new season and called the show out via Twitter/X: “Please change the stage and werkroom.” Another fan added: “Give them some budget this time”.

One posted a quippy remark that stated: “If Drag Race Down Under can get renewed, anything is possible! Never give up”.
