The first trailer for Dead Boy Detectives, Netflix’s upcoming supernatural horror detective comedy, has finally been released.

Based on the DC Comics characters of the same name from Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, the series stars George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri as Edwin Paine and Charles Rowland, best friends who decided to ditch the afterlife to remain on Earth to investigate supernatural crimes.

The synopsis reads: “Do you have a pesky ghost haunting you? Has a demon stolen your core memories? You may want to ring the Dead Boy Detectives.

“Teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death, Edwin and Charles are best friends and ghosts… who solve mysteries. They will do anything to stick together — including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself.”

Aided by a “clairovoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura)”, Edwin and Charles will “crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases”.

The trailer, set to My Chemical Romance’s ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’, proves that this will be a series for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural fans with its mix of action, demonic entities and the aforementioned duo’s buddy-style chemistry.

There might also be some queer romance in store, with a glimpse of Lukas Gage’s character Thomas the Cat King in an intimate moment with Edwin.

According to Netflix, Dead Boy Detectives is set in the same universe as The Sandman, another fantasy drama based on a comic book series from Gaiman.

Additional cast members are as follows: Briana Cuoco as Jenny the Butcher, Ruth Connell as the Night Nurse, Jenn Lyon as Esther, Michael Beach as Tragic Mick, Joshua Colley as Monty, Lindsey Gort as Maxine, Caitlin Reilly as Lily, Max Jenkins as Kingham and David Iacono as David the Demon.

Kirby Howell-Baptiste is also set to reprise her role from The Sandman as Death.

Dead Boy Detectives premieres 25 April on Netflix – watch the trailer here or below.
