Primavera’s first weekend back in action since 2019 saw headline performances from Tame Impala, Beck and Gorillaz.
The second weekend of Primavera Sound, however, was rightfully branded (unofficially) as the festival’s queer weekend.
With artists including Dua Lipa, Megan Thee Stallion, Lorde, Ashnikko and Jessie Ware making their way over to Barcelona to perform for the second weekend, the Barcelona-based festival was populated with members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Between the festival’s two main weekends, there were a range of concerts at more intimate venues in and around the city.
For PC music’s showcase at the venue Razzmatazz, Charli XCX made an appearance while A.G. Cook played her fan-favourite track Focus.
Simultaneously in the club’s room next door, Megan Thee Stallion was “WAPPING” on the stage, warming up for her headline slot the following Sunday.
The main festival kicked off on Friday evening, with Dua Lipa performing a selection of her most iconic pop hits.
The British singer also chucked inflatable moons and waved the Pride flag during her performance of Cold Heart – all with a shimmy of the hip, of course.
Dua was placed back-to-back with Charli XCX, who delivered banger after banger on the opposite end of the festival. She was even joined by Rina Sawayama for a performance of their eurodance hit Beg For You.
The rest of the weekend saw a euphoric disco set from Jessie Ware on the CUPRA stage of the festival, as well as Dorian Electra and the Spanish local’s favourite, Bad Gyal.
Supporting Primavera on its quest to bring killer line up’s such as these is the Barcelona-based electric car brand, CUPRA.
The brand will be partnering with the festival again over the next couple of years, which feels apt as the brand’s progressive values match the inclusive energy of the festival as a whole.
