Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel will star in an upcoming pop music spectacle from A24.

According to Deadline, Mother Mary will follow a musician (Hathaway) and her relationship with an “iconic fashion designer” (Coel).

Mother Mary sees writer and director David Lowery reunite with A24 following his 2021 medieval fantasy epic, The Green Knight, which received universal critical acclaim.

Lowery’s first film with the studio, 2018’s supernatural drama A Ghost Story, also received positive reviews.

Pop music fans unite, because legendary producer and The Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff will write and produce songs with pop icon Charli XCX, alongside an original score from Daniel Hart.

“Jack bout to get mothered,” Charli wrote on social media.

Hathaway’s recent credits include the psychological thriller Eileen, which premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival back in January to praise, and the romantic comedy film She Came to Me.

Last year, Coel made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as Aneka, a warrior of the Dora Milaje who is romantically involved with Ayo (Florence Kasumba).

For creating and starring in BBC One and HBO’s lauded dramedy I May Destroy You (2020), Coel won a BAFTA for Best Actress and memorably made history as the first Black woman to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special.
