Amandla Stenberg has been announced as one of the stars in the upcoming musical series The Eddy. Variety reports that the series will begin airing in 2020, but it doesn’t yet have a solid date.

Stenberg will play the role of Julie, the teenage daughter of main character Elliot. The arrival of Julie will force Elliot to face his past. The Eddy, which will be an eight-part musical drama, will focus on a nightclub in Paris, its owner, the house band, and the city itself.

Also joining the cast are André Holland, who played Kevin in the critically-acclaimed LGBTQ film Moonlight, and Joanna Kulig, who played Zula Lichoń in Cold War.

Holland has been cast as Elliot, and Kulig will play Maja, Elliot’s girlfriend who is struggling to commit to him.

Also involved with the project are La La Land’s director Damien Chazelle, who created the series; Jack Thorne, who has written for Skins and Shameless, as the writer; and Glen Ballard, who has composed for The Pointer Sisters, Anastacia and Katy Perry, will be composing the tracks for the series.

Since coming out, Amandla Stenberg has been a vocal voice in the LGBTQ community, something that earned them the Visibility Award from the Human Rights Campaign.

Chad Griffin, the president of the HRC said: “Amandla Stenberg is captivating audiences with her incredible talent while using her public platform to spark conversations on the importance of intersectionality and advancing fairness and equality for all.

“An out and proud member of the LGBTQ community, Amandla is a passionate, bold and compelling voice in the fight for LGBTQ equality.”
