Lou Ferrigno Jr has spilt some major 9-1-1 tea about the original love interest for his character.

Over the last few days, fans have been freaking out over Evan ‘Buck’ Buckley’s season seven journey.

During 9-1-1’s milestone 100th episode, viewers were thrown for an unexpected loop when the fan-favourite character was confirmed to be bisexual.

The episode, aptly titled ‘Buck, Bothered and Bewildered’, saw Buck sharing an (unexpected) kiss with former firefighter and LAFD Air Operations pilot Tommy, played by Ferrigno Jr.

The moment was immediately embraced by fans, who understandably freaked out over Buck’s bi-awakening, with many saying it was a “long time coming.”

A week later, fans were treated to the highly anticipated fifth episode, which featured Buck and Tommy going on their first date.

While their outing was adorable, it was full of chaotic moments, ranging from Buck’s uncontrollable nerves to an awkward run-in with Eddie (Ryan Guzman) and his girlfriend Marisol.

In the end, Tommy leaves the date early, telling Buck that he might not be ready to date.

While their first date was disaster, the episode ended with Buck apologising to Tommy over coffee, with the latter revealing that he didn’t want to “pressure” him.

In response, Buck said: “The truth is, I don’t know what I’m ready for. But I’m ready for something, and I think that maybe something could be with you.”

In light of Buck and Tommy’s budding romance, Ferrigno Jr opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about all things 9-1-1 – including the development of his character’s storyline.

“It was a discussion if I would be willing to have this romantic moment [with Buck], which would be very dissimilar to what I have been really doing thus far,” he explained.

“[Showrunner Tim Minear] laid out the arc, and it was really, really cool situation, and I agreed to it.”

Ferrigno Jr revealed that his character was initially going to woo Eddie before the writers switched their sights to Buck.

“Oliver and I spoke [ the day before we shot it]. We met briefly when I was shooting the three episodes of season two, and I think about 50 to 70 percent of the feelings I have about someone happen in the first five minutes,” he explained.

“I really liked Oliver. It was originally, possibly going to be with Eddie and Tommy, but that fell through. But Oliver was willing, and I think that Oliver is just such a brave, generous actor.”

Towards the end of his interview, the 39-year-old talent opened up about Tommy’s future and whether he’ll be sticking around after episode six.

“I don’t know. That’s something I don’t want to necessarily get into yet. But if everybody can just put down the Buck-Eddie relationship for a moment – I mean, they’re great. I love them together,” he teased.

“There’s another season, so it’s not like this is the end of the show. There’s so much more [to come]… so, hopefully, Tommy will be around more after next week’s episode.”

9-1-1 airs every Thursday in the US on ABC.
