Busiest man in Hollywood?
Ryan Murphy isn’t stopping any time soon. In an interview with TIME magazine, the Emmy Award-winning director, writer and producer announced several new projects as part of his multi-million dollar deal with Netflix.
In addition to an adaptation of the critically-acclaimed Broadway musical The Prom – which will star Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman – Murphy will be adapting the classic 1975 musical A Chorus Line for a 10-part miniseries.
He’s also recruited Ewan McGregor to star as the revolutionary fashion designer Halston, and will helm a docuseries about Andy Warhol and another that will focus on a real-life closeted lesbian couple who came out in their 80s.
Patti LuPone and Holland Taylor will star in Hollywood, which will take a “look at Hollywood and the sex industry, and how absolutely everything has changed and nothing has changed.”
Murphy will also work with frequent collaborator Jessica Lange for a project about Hollywood icon Marlene Dietrich in Vegas during the early 60s. Lange is also set to star in Ryan’s upcoming series, The Politician, which drops 27 September on Netflix.
It follows Ben Platt’s character Payton Hobart, a wealthy student from California who is determined to become the President of the United States. First, he has to navigate “the most treacherous political landscape of all: Saint Sebastian High School”.
His current projects that don’t air on a streaming service include Pose, American Crime Story, 911 – its spin-off, 911: Lone Star – and American Horror Story, the latter of which will premiere its ninth season 18 September on FX.
