Missy Elliott is here to reclaim her throne.

The legendary rapper changed the game in the early 00s with smash hit singles like Get Ur Freak On, Work It and Lose Control – and as any fan knows, her music videos are almost as iconic as her songs.

It was recently announced that she’d finally be receiving the prestigious Video Vanguard Award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, and just in case anyone forgot why she deserves it, she’s just dropped one of her most creative videos yet.

The clip begins with a young girl learning about “the game-changing sensation” that is Missy, before the rapper appears to play a game of jump rope with her own hair, literally snatch wigs, and serve choreography on the moon. See? Iconic.

“Let’s Throw It Back to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance,” she wrote on Instagram.

“This year has been a tremendous year for me. I am humbled and grateful. THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me.”

Missy also dropped a brand new EP called Iconology – her first collection of songs since 2005’s album The Cook Book – which contains four new tracks for fans to savour, including a feature from Sum1 and an acoustic track.
