David Tenant has teased new details about Ncuti Gatwa’s upcoming performance in Doctor Who.

Back in May 2022, the Sex Education star was announced as the new Time Lord for the show’s upcoming 14th season.

“There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling. A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited, and of course a little bit scared,” Gatwa shared in a statement.

“This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care.”

Over the last few months, the BBC and showrunner Russell T Davies have shared small sneak peeks at Gatwa’s upcoming performance with first-look photos and brief clips, featured in the trailers for Doctor Who’s 60th-anniversary specials.

In November 2022, Davies teased: “If you thought the appearance of David Tennant was a shock, we’ve got plenty more surprises on the way.”

“The path to Ncuti’s Fifteenth Doctor is laden with mystery, horror, robots, puppets, danger and fun! And how is it connected to the return of the wonderful Donna Noble? How, what, why? We’re giving you a year to speculate, and then all hell lets loose!”

Fortunately, new exciting details about the Barbie star’s 15th Doctor have recently come out, courtesy of Good Omens actor Tennant.

While speaking to SFX Magazine, the beloved talent revealed that he had to go to sneaky lengths to admire Gatwa’s performance.

“I have managed to admire, from afar, a little bit of Ncuti,” he explained (via GamesRadar)

“I’ve been sneaky. I’ve been sniffing around the studios today, and I may have crept on set at one point. God, he’s good casting. It’s very exciting to think about what’s gonna happen to the show when he takes over.”

Tennant isn’t the only Doctor Who star to praise Gatwa ahead of his debut.

Neil Patrick Harris, who’s portraying the Toymaker in the show’s 60th-anniversary specials, told Variety in August 2022: “I got to meet and interact with him a bit, and he’s glorious. He’ll be the first gay Doctor, which is going to be super cool, a sexier Doctor.”

Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney echoed similar sentiments to The Evening Standard, describing their shared screen time as “magic.”

“We’re intertwined, and I think we complement each other so well,” she added.

Finney is set to portray Donna Noble’s daughter, Rose, in the new 60th anniversary specials.

As of this writing, the release date for season 14 is still being kept under wraps.

Here’s to hoping Gatwa’s 15th doctor will arrive on our screens sooner rather than later.
