Cher has opened up about those Dua Lipa comparisons in one epic tweet.

Back in August, a fan took to Twitter and uploaded two photos of the beloved singers in similar glittery ensembles with the caption: “Dua Lipa, the Cher of our generation.”

However, in response to the now-deleted post, the Believe singer poked fun at the Twitter user’s statement by writing: “How many yrs are in a generation?”

Shortly after Cher uploaded her response, many of her fans flocked to social media to support the pop icon.

One fan wrote: “Y’all coming for Cher one of the most influential female acts in music history… over DUA LIPA.”

Another fan tweeted: “I’m sure even this went over their head. Dua is a talented singer and dancer. That is all she needs to be. Cher has proven herself not only a skilled musician, but an actress, advocate and more. No need to compare nor level anyone. Admire them for who THEY are alone.”

In a follow-up tweet to the Moonstruck star, the original poster clarified their comment, stating: “I was praising u and dua style. Some people didn’t get the message.”

As of this writing, Dua has yet to share her opinion on the matter.

Since gaining popularity in 1960s as one-half of the husband-wife duo Sonny & Cher, the music legend has sold over 100 million records worldwide – making her one of the best-selling artists of all time – and won Grammy and Emmy Awards.

Not only that, she is still the only artist to date to have a chart-topping single on a Billboard chart in six consecutive decades, from the 1960s to the 2010s.

As an actress, Cher has won various accolades, including a Golden Globe and Academy Award for her performance in Moonstruck. She is one of five entertainers who have had a number one hit in the US and won an Oscar for acting.

And, of course, Cher has become one of the most vocal advocates for LGBTQ+ rights and HIV/AIDS prevention.

Cher and Dua Lipa are both pop icons, let’s celebrate them both.
