Havas Chicago are celebrating Pride this year with a virtual extravaganza.
Due to concerns over the global coronavirus pandemic, Pride events around the world have been put on hold, so the award-winning creative advertising agency has introduced Can’t Cancel Pride – an LGBTQ+ led social movement that celebrates the legacy of queer liberation.
“Over the past decade, Pride events worldwide have become increasingly corporatized — rainbow-washing queer culture and creating a spectacle that takes attention away from the injustices that still affect the LGBTQ+ community,” said Havas.
“With those events not happening this year and corporate sponsorships no longer at the forefront of Pride celebrations, a team of creatives and strategists at Havas saw an opportunity to reclaim what is ours and revive the true authentic spirit of Pride; a celebration of who we are, and a protest for justice and change.”
On the Instagram channel for Can’t Cancel Pride, the agency have been posting content from stars such as Pose’s Indya Moore, RuPaul’s Drag Race legend Shea Couleé and singer-songwriter Merlot, while reiterating the importance of the Black Trans Lives Matter movement.
They’re also giving the LGBTQ+ community a chance to be featured on the page if they use the hashtag “#cantcancelpride”.
“During this historic pandemic, our usual ways of coming together have changed. Sharing content has become a popular way of experiencing isolation together,” Havas continued.
“Though our access to each other has dwindled, our relationship to creativity has not. @CantCancelPride is a digital representation of what feels like the most meaningful Pride we’ve had in years.
“We are led by queer people, for queer people, and we exist to lift up voices, celebrate our community, and provide information and resources on how to get involved in the fight for queer liberation for not just some, but all.”

Yesterday, the Trump administration rolled back Obama era healthcare protections for people who identify as Transgender. Medical institutions now have the right to refuse treating someone who is Trans in the midst of a pandemic. An attack on some of us is an attack on all of us. If you’re taking to the streets this weekend, we’ve made some protest signs available for download. Link in bio. #cantcancelpride
