Warrior Nun is set to return with a trilogy of feature films.

In 2022, the Netflix series was cancelled after two critically-acclaimed seasons, sparking outrage from fans.

After various fan-led campaigns, including a high profile change.org petition, it was announced in June that Warrior Nun had been saved, with director and showrunner Simon Barry confirming that it will make an “epic” return.

On 15 August, executive producer Dean English revealed that three feature films have been commissioned to continue the titular character’s story.

“I need to start by thanking all of you loyal fans. It’s because of you and your incredible energy that we keep pushing forward to make these stories. You guys really make it all worthwhile. So thank you so much for your continued support,” English said in a statement to warriornunsaved.com.

“I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures. Once again, a trilogy of feature films. Three.”

While English is unable to make anymore announcements as a result of the ongoing strikes in Hollywood, he continued: “Some may ask, “Does this perhaps infer that there’s going to be a universe being launched of Warrior Nun, which could expand into films and TV series following characters that we already know?”

“The answer to that question is yes. And there will be more details in the future.”

He concluded his statement: “I want to say that you guys have made me very, very proud through all your hard work and inspired me all the time to keep going. So in this life or the next.”

Based on Ben Dunn’s comic book Warrior Nun Areala, the series follows 19-year-old Ava Silva (Alba Baptista), who wakes up in a morgue with supernatural abilities and that discovers that she must battle demons on Earth.

While Warrior Nun was praised for its writing, acting and action sequences, it gained a passionate following due to its LGBTQ+ representation and blossoming relationship between Ava and Sister Beatrice (Kristina Tonteri-Young).

The second season made history with the highest audience score for a Netflix series.
