Netflix has released the first set of images from the upcoming second season of Young Royals.

Following its premiere last year, which was met with widespread critical acclaim, the Swedish teen drama was renewed by the streamer in November.

Set in the fictional elite boarding school Hillerska, the show revolves around Prince Wilhelm of Sweden (Edvin Ryding) and his blossoming romance with a fellow student, Simon Eriksson (Omar Rudberg). When he unexpectedly becomes next in line for the throne, he has to make a choice between love and duty.

The series also stars Malte Gårdinger as August of Årnäs, Frida Argento as Sara Eriksson and Nikita Uggla as Felice Ehrencrona.

Young Royals was also a major hit with audiences thanks to its LGBTQ+ themes and the performances of the cast, especially Ryding and Eriksson. The first season currently boasts an incredible 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Alongside the new set of images, Netflix teased “friendship, secrets, revenge, and a threat to the monarchy” in season two, which garnered excitement from fans.

“I’m going to burst into flames I can’t wait,” tweeted one viewer, while another wrote: “Secrets and revenge? OMG a threat to the monarchy? I can’t wait any longer.”

Before Young Royals was renewed, Rudberg told The Mud Mag that we can expect the drama in the second season to go “up another level”.

“I actually don’t know what is going to happen, but if you see the series and think of what it reveals about the characters at the end of the series, I feel like there is a lot that is going to happen,” he told the publication.

“If there is going to be a season 2, and I really hope that there is, I think it would be amazing. The drama is going up another level, it’s going to get crazy.”
