Eurovision

Iceland’s Eurovision entry is definitely… interesting.

As the only Nordic country to not yet have a win under their belt, Iceland are hoping to take the competition home at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, and it seems they’re banking on shock factor to do it.

Hatari is a band made up of art school friends, Klemens Hannigan, Matthías Tryggvi Haraldson, and Einar Stéfansson, who describe themselves as an “anti-capitalist techno BDSM performance art group”.

Over the weekend, the Reykjavik-based band won Söngvakeppnin, a local competition in which the Icelandic public vote to choose which act will represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv in May.

Hatari have caused a commotion by challenging Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu to a wrestling match, and expressing their desire to build “the first ever Hatari sponsored liberal BDSM colony” in the country.

Check out their entry song Hatrið Mun Sigra, which means Hate Will Prevail, below.

The Eurovision Song Contest Final will air Saturday 18 May.
