“I’m not discouraged. I’m inspired. I hope you are too.”

American actress and politician Cynthia Nixon has lost her bid to become the Democratic nominee for New York governor.

She was defeated by reigning governor Andrew Cuomo, who has filled the position since 2011. He achieved 65.6% of the overall votes, with Nixon winning 34.4%.

The Sex and the City star promised to make changes on the environment, women’s rights, and vowed to stop deportation of families at the hands of US President Donald Tr*mp.

Shortly after she lost to Cuomo, she tweeted: “While the result tonight wasn’t what we had hoped for, I’m not discouraged.

“I’m inspired. I hope you are too. We have fundamentally changed the political landscape in this state.”

She added: “Thank you all for believing and fighting and leaving it all on the field.

“We started something here in New York, and it doesn’t end today. This is just the beginning.

“And I know that together, we will win this fight.”
