Watch Taron Egerton as Elton John in first trailer for Rocketman

Dexter Fletcher’s upcoming Elton John biopic has received its first official trailer.

Based on the life of the legendary musician, Rocketman will focus on Elton’s early years in the music industry, his rise at the Royal Academy of Music, and his struggles with fame and drug abuse.

Reportedly, the film will be more of a “fantasy musical” than a traditional biopic.

British actor Taron Egerton, who plays Elton in the film, revealed: “Everyone thinks it’s a biopic. It isn’t. It’s a fantasy musical so it’s actually his songs used to express important beats in his life at emotional moments.

“He’s not the only character that sings. It’s going to be fun.”

Producer Matthew Vaughn, who worked alongside Egerton on the Kingsman films, told The Hollywood Reporter: “This film is going to make people’s jaws hit the ground. Elton just said, ‘Tell it all. Go as R-rated as you need to’.

“And we do just that, with his blessing. The flaws and the genius are all there.”

Rocketman also stars Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Gemma Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard.
