Stonewall have named their Top Global Employers for 2018.
The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender charity have created a list of 13 companies based on the Global Workplace Equality Index, which marks employers on policy, training, staff engagement, leadership, monitoring and more.
Stonewall explained that their list “celebrates the pioneering efforts of leading organisations to create inclusive workplaces and advance equality for LGBT people wherever they are in the world”.
In no particular order, the Top Global Employers this year are: Accenture, Allen & Overy, Baker McKenzie, Barclays PLC, BP, Dentons, Herbert Smith Freehills LLP, Pinsent Masons, RBS, SAP, Simmons & Simmons, Vodafone Group Plc, and Zurich Insurance Group.
The awards will be presented by Stonewall CEO Ruth Hunt at an event held in London on Thursday 19 July, while Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Ukraine Judith Gough CMG will deliver a keynote speech.
“LGBT people face discrimination, violence and isolation in every country in the world. In more than 70 countries, consensual same-sex activity remains illegal, and the death penalty exists in eight. Only six countries allow trans people to self-determine their gender,” said Ruth.
“At a time when global LGBT rights are under threat of going backwards, we’re proud to work alongside our Top Global Employers, who operate in some extremely difficult contexts, to ensure all people are protected and welcome at work, wherever they are.”
Special awards will also be given to three of the Top Global Employers, with Accenture receiving the Global Ally Programme Award and Global Community Engagement, and Baker McKenzie collecting the Global LGBT Network Award,
Meanwhile, Vittorio Colao, group CEO of Vodafone Group Plc will be recognised with the Global Senior Champion Award.
