When visiting Miami, one of your most important tasks is finding somewhere restful to stay that’s still close to the action; Hotel Greystone is one of those unique hotels that perfectly creates a sense of calm and ease as soon as you step through the lobby door, whilst still being in the doorstep of what makes Miami, Miami!
Greystone’s lobby is warm and welcoming, right on the infamous Collins Avenue which is where you want to be if you are staying in the South Beach area. It’s perfectly situated, only a few minutes walk to the beach but also to many amazing restaurants and shops nearby. Our check in experience was flawless with an incredibly relaxed front desk team that had a welcoming family vibe and approach, allowing guests to feel at home in what is often a busy area on the beach.
Rooms are separated between the main building and the back building. We were allocated a room in the back building. At first we thought this might make us feel a bit removed from the property but it turned out to be incredibly lucious and serene, away from the main avenue and set back into a more leafy and green area.
In your room you may as well be in a tropical paradise. The rooms are all decorated in classic art deco Miami Beach white with crisp sheets and bathrooms which only adds to the sense of calm, making for really airy rooms which only enhances the resort-like feel.
The room itself was wonderful and looked onto the back of Miami beach towards the mainland, so although we didn’t get a sea view, the lack of light pollution looking inland made for a very restful and enjoyable beach stay. The real in-room highlights are the rooms that have a jacuzzi on the balcony which adds a dash of Miami Beach fun to your stay.
We couldn’t help but think that a few hotel room parties must have gone on. Having said that, due to the solid art-deco build of the property, rooms are very sound insulated so we never had any issues with noise.
Kobo, the stop and go cafe in the main area of the courtyard is open for most of the day, allowing guests to grab an array of different healthy snacks and drinks on their way out. There was a real focus on wellbeing at Hotel Greystone which was really appreciated as in Miami Beach it’s often easier to get fast food rather than healthy food. Kobo was a really nice departure from some of the other cafes nearby.
The courtyard has a cute range of tables and chairs that guests were often milling around and hanging out during the day, which only adds to the intimate vibe of the hotel.
In contrast, the main restaurant Sérêvène offers a high end dining experience which you wouldn’t typically find in a smaller property like this, which was by far our favourite part of the hotel. Sérêvène’s menu is a harmonious unison of Japanese izakaya with French techniques, focusing on an experiential dining experience.
The team at Salt Hotels have done an excellent job in bringing higher end cuisine to this small property and we absolutely love the dining experience. There are cosy booths and more classic a la carte dining tables that give the restaurant a vibrant and exciting night time feel.
The Rooftop is a vibrant pool area, a haven of entertainment, refreshment and relaxation which offers guests music, craft cocktails, small bites and postcard views of historic architecture that construct a quintessential Miami Beach scene.
We had a chance to speak to some of the leadership at Salt hotels and it’s clear that they care passionately about creating warm and inviting experiences in different American cities for local and international guests. The two gay owners in particular have a very thoughtful design approach which we absolutely loved and staying in a queer owned hotel just makes us feel even more at home when visiting new destinations in the US.
