When planning a trip to Miami it’s easy to be lured in by the bright lights and bustling gay scene of Miami South Beach.

However, Fort Lauderdale which is just 40 minutes north of Miami has a lot to offer gay holiday goers and can work out a lot more cost effective too. Fort Lauderdale is quieter and more popular with families but is still extremely gay friendly with many gay hotels and male only resorts.

The Grand Resort is Fort Lauderdale’s premier gay-owned and operated men’s spa resort. Opening just under 20 years ago, the resort has 33 comfortable rooms and is in prime location; moments away from the beautiful Fort Lauderdale beach, tourist attractions, local bars and nightclubs.

On arriving, a large sun facing pool with surrounding dining area is the perfect welcome into the resort. Friendly staff were pleased to welcome us and give us a guided tour, taking the time to explain the history of the 20-year-old retreat and suggesting things to do and see in the area.

Beautiful, lush green plants decorate the room areas giving it a private and natural atmosphere, this complements the fact that The Grand Resort has a secluded back part of the resort, where nudity is allowed. A large hot tub, big enough for six and a magnificent fountain, all private and hidden from adjoining properties.

Our apartment is large, simple but clean and warmly decorated with every amenity we need including TV and kitchen area. A decent size walk in shower in a slate-tiled bathroom. Our room overlooks the hot tub area the next door resort which also happens to be gay.

The resort offers first class spa treatment packages which include; beach essentials, get pampered getaway, quick chill, romance by the sea and skin solutions. Alternatively you can book a spa day of indulgence for yourself or as a couple.

A hearty breakfast is included and catered poolside. The other guests are kind and conversational with us. There is an extremely relaxed and vibe with zero judgement and intimidation.

During our stay we enjoyed dinner at some charming local restaurants including Coconuts, Brown Dog and Casablanca all serving amazingly fresh seafood. Bars along the beach strip were lively most of which providing entertainment and great for people watching.

An extremely enjoyable stay at the Grand Resort which has particularly high standards for a reasonable price point; double rooms from $249. A fun place to stay for young and older gay couples looking for a quiet and romantic getaway.
