How Es Vivé has carved out its own luxurious niche in Ibiza

“Discreetly positioned adjacent to Figueretas beach, Es Vivé holds a special place amongst Ibiza’s stylish hotels.”

On an island boasting accommodation of every variety – from rural fincas to ultra-modern hotels, budget hostels to money-no-object yachts – Es Vivé has carved out its own special niche.

It’s rare to find a Grade II listed property on Ibiza and especially one with its own sky terrace boasting the island’s first prosecco bar.

Es Vivé came into being in 2000, the building rescued by new owners and refurbished into an Art Deco gem, reinstating the lost glamour of the original architecture. Rooms are luxe and elegant with plush, padded beds and marble bathrooms. The Deco restaurant is double-height with inlaid marble floors, sparkling chandeliers and studded-leather chairs – quite the place for a relaxed breakfast. The quality of design runs throughout and has gone on to consistently win interior design awards.

The bright white stucco with aquamarine detail on the exterior is reminiscent of the classic Art Deco on Miami Beach’s Ocean Drive. Starting your day poolside, it’s easy to imagine scenes for Miami Vice being filmed on the marble terrace. Sonny Crockett in his pistachio linen jacket and rolled up sleeves enjoying the sun and the efficient waiter service.

There’s an elegance here that’s hard to find elsewhere on the island. But don’t let the bygone glamour lull you into thinking this is all about yesteryear. Es Vivé may be refined and relaxed but this is definitely contemporary Ibiza. A DJ creates a poolside buzz from early afternoon, with a soundtrack that’s transmitted to fans worldwide, and there’s a feeling that just about anything could happen.

On that note, there’s a concierge here that can make anything happen. One of  Es Vivé’s strong points are the owners who are Ibiza veterans and well connected on the island. As guests, their expertise and contacts are at your disposal.

If you are newcomer to Ibiza, there can be the sense that there’s so much happening you either don’t know about or just can’t get in on. Es Vivé’s concierge banish that barrier and can organise anything from chauffeur-driven Mercedes (at the same cost as local taxis) to chartered yachts, advise on and make reservations at the best restaurants and arrange VIP tables at the hottest clubs. They can make anything you can think of happen – and suggest quite a lot you had no idea about.

That level of service and sense of happening is also present on-site. Es Vivé is a boutique destination for everything from personalised wellness in the spa to VIP party treatment in its Experience Bar. But that comes later. First, as the shadows lengthen by the pool and the sun shifts, so do we. It’s time to move skyward.

Es Vivé’s Sky Bar is the place to be from late afternoon with its widescreen views of Figueretas bay and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Eivissa Old Town. With luxury double sunloungers, areas for full-on socialising or discreet parties (plus the aforementioned prosecco bar) it’s the perfect setting to kick start the evening.

If you’re going out later, turn left for the Old Town with its new Superyacht Marina or turn right for the clubbing beach of Playa d’en Bossa. Or step into your chauffeured car to discover the delights of the rest of the island.

With its speakeasy feel and sheen of metalwork hinting at Captain Nemo’s submarine, there’s also reason to stay at Es Vivé when the Experience Bar opens at midnight.

A drink outside on the terrace with the architecture beautifully illuminated can be both a pre-party start to the night ahead or a final nightcap to reminisce.

Strings of lights shimmer and halos of neon colour the coconut palms and exotic foliage – making Es Vivé feel even more like the island oasis it truly is.
